Each year, Santa Monica College selects enthusiastic student leaders who are passionate about helping others succeed. Student Ambassadors play an important role in helping prospective and new students feel welcomed, informed, and confident as they begin their college journey.
As an ambassador, you'll represent Santa Monica College, support future students, and gain valuable leadership and professional experience along the way.
Why We Do This
Since 2009, the Student Ambassador Program has helped prospective and new students feel welcomed, supported, and connected as they begin their journey at Santa Monica College.
Grounded in the values of equity, belonging, and servant leadership, our Student Ambassadors are committed to creating an inclusive community where every student feels seen, supported, and empowered to succeed.
Why Become an Ambassador?
As a Student Ambassador, you'll have the opportunity to:
- Make a lasting impact on the SMC community
- Help future students feel welcomed and supported
- Build leadership, communication, and public speaking skills
- Develop confidence through public speaking, campus tours, and presentations to prospective students and community groups
- Gain valuable professional experience
- Represent Santa Monica College at campus and community events
- Make meaningful connections with students, faculty, and staff
What You'll Do
Welcome and Support Students
- Answer questions and help prospective students navigate the path to becoming an SMC student
- Guide prospective students through the application and enrollment process
- Connect students with the resources and services they need to succeed
- Provide information and referrals to help students confidently begin their college journey
Represent Santa Monica College
- Lead engaging campus tours for prospective students, families, schools, and community groups, helping visitors experience what makes SMC such a great community
- Participate in outreach events, college fairs, school visits, and community programs
- Share your personal SMC experience to help future students envision themselves here
Build Community
- Support Welcome Center events, orientations, and onboarding activities
- Help create an inclusive, welcoming environment where students feel they belong
- Help new students build confidence, connections, and a sense of belonging from day one
- Showcase the opportunities, programs, and resources that make SMC a great place to learn and grow
Connect In Person and Online
- Support prospective and new students in person, by phone, through Zoom, and other virtual platforms
- Respond to questions and provide timely support throughout the enrollment process
